Kante eyeing FA Cup triumph to salvage Chelsea’s season

N’Golo Kante says he is is determined to help Chelsea win the FA Cup to help salvage what’s been a disappointing season at Stamford Bridge.

The Blues beat Southampton 2-0 at Wembley in yesterday’s semi-final, meaning they will face Manchester United in final later next month.

Winning the competition remains the Blues only hope of silverware this season, after being knocked out of the Champions League last month at the hands of Barcelona.

Antonio Conte’s men have had a tough season in the league too. They sit 5th, five points behind Tottenham in fourth, and look likely to miss out on Champions League football for the second time in just three seasons.

And Kante believes winning the FA Cup is just the pick me up needed at the club.

“In the FA Cup everything is open,” he says. “I don’t want to feel as though it will be easy for us because we are Chelsea. We are fifth and they are fighting against relegation, but I think it will be an open game. In the cup anything can happen and we have to be ready to win this game.

“It’s an important game for us because as everyone knows we are not in the top four, we are out of the Champions League (places) and it’s our last chance to get a title. So to be here for a second time in two years is good, but we must get to the final and win this title.”

Since moving to Stamford Bridge in the summer of 2016, Kante has already added to his medal collection by winning the Premier League title last season.

Now, he has his sights set firmly on extending that haul by helping the Blues secure the FA Cup for a record eighth time.

“It’s always difficult to win titles in England, this season we can only win the FA Cup but it’s like that,” says Kante. “I’m enjoying playing to reach our targets, it’s been a bit difficult this season but we have to learn and keep fighting to try to win something.

“We are fifth and it’s the only thing we can win, so it’s better to finish the season with one FA Cup rather than no FA Cup. If we do, it will be one target reached, so it will be good.”
