Journalist Reveals Club Is “Waiting For An Offer From Chelsea” As Blues Look To Follow Felix Deal With 8.9M Transfer

Borussia Monchengladbach are “waiting for an offer from Chelsea” for striker Marcus Thuram, according to Bild reporter Christian Falk.

The German journalist claims that the Bundesliga side are prepared to sell the France international for €10m (£8.9m) this month as they fear losing the player for nothing to Barcelona at the end of the season:

“I heard that Gladbach is still waiting for an offer from Chelsea for Marcus Thuram. Beside Joao Felix, it’s not the same type of striker, so they still need one. Gladbach have an idea of selling Thuram for €10m now rather than losing him for free in the summer, then reinvesting the money in a new striker. The offer’s yet to come, of course, and they’re a little bit afraid of Barcelona who have been sweeping up all the available free agents on the market.”

As Falk mentions, Graham Potter’s side are looking to recruit another forward, despite already securing the services of Joao Felix from Atletico Madrid.

Thuram is believed to be someone who is under serious consideration, having scored 13 goals in all competitions for Gladbach this campaign. However, it appears no formal bid has been made yet.

Whether the Blues are simply biding their time before entering negotiations, or whether they are focused on another target, it is not known.

Thuram has also been linked with plenty of other Premier League teams, including Newcastle, Arsenal and Manchester United but it seems that, if he doesn’t seal a move to Stamford Bridge in January, he may weigh up his options ahead of a free transfer next summer.
