Journalist Confirms Chelsea Are Keeping Tabs On Potential Potter Replacement Who They’ve “Always Appreciated”

Chelsea are fans of former Bayern Munich head coach Julian Nagelsmann, according to journalist Simon Phillips.

The German was sacked by the Bundesliga champions last week, and Phillips claims that, while the Blues are keeping faith with current manager Graham Potter for the time being, Nagelsmann is very much on their radar:

“As of right now, I’m told the Chelsea board continue to back Graham Potter and they are determined to stick with him. As always, things can change fast, and Chelsea will certainly keep an eye on the Julian Nagelsmann situation purely because he is a manager they have always appreciated anyway. But right now, they are only planning with Potter.”

Nagelsmann is currently the bookies’ favourite for the Tottenham job, ahead of Mauricio Pochettino, following Spurs’s decision to sack Antonio Conte. It’s, therefore, very likely that the 35-year-old won’t be on the market for very long so Chelsea’s board may have a decision to make.

Potter has been in charge for nearly seven months but his record is pretty poor. In the 30 matches he has taken charge of, the Blues have won 12, drawn 8 and lost 10.

There are, of course, mitigating circumstances. There has been a massive turnover of players and trying to get a team to gel together in such a short space of time is a big challenge. It should also be pointed out the London club are in the Champions League quarter-finals.

The availability of someone of Nagelmann’s reputation, though, could tempt Chelsea into making a change but we shall see.
