Journalist Claims “Chelsea’s Meddling” Could Scupper Serie A Giant’s Attempts To Sign 80 Cap International

Chelsea are still in contention to sign Barcelona forward Memphis Depay, according to Tuttosport journalist Fabio Riva.

The reporter claims that Juventus have offered the 28-year-old a two-year contract but Thomas Tuchel’s side could yet get involved in the battle to recruit the player:

“Memphis Depay is trying to resolve the [contract] dispute to free himself from Barcelona. There are some pending issues related to bonuses and last salaries. Then he will be free to settle down to zero. Juve has offered him a two-year deal of around €6million plus bonuses. The parties are close, but Chelsea’s meddling must be noted. Therefore, in Turin, they have to be timely and not let the Dutch centre forward be ‘fooled’.”

From the sound of things, it does look like Depay is one step away from signing for Juve, barring a last-minute intervention from Chelsea. The Dutchman, who has been capped 80 times by his country, has been linked with a switch to Stamford Bridge but the Blues are believed to be more focused on signing his teammate: Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

However, it is thought that Barca may only allow one of the two forwards to leave, so if Depay does finalise his move to Italy, Chelsea’s attempts to snap up Aubameyang could falter.

Reports suggest that the 33-year-old could cost as much as €25m (£21m) to €30m (£25m), despite only moving on a free transfer from Arsenal earlier this year.
