Jose Mourinho – Every Reporters Dream – Most Classic Quotes & Comments

Jose Mourinho - Every Reporters Dream - Most Classic Quotes & Comments Jose Mourinho has has never been short on things to say or shy about voicing his opinions no matter which language you speak as reporters and press in Portugal, England, Italy and Spain can attest. During his numerous press conferences and interviews he has given there have been so many golden nuggets and glorious soundbites which have become Chelsea folklore.

When announced as Chelsea manager the first time around Mourinho made his now legendary “Special One” statement he said, “I have top players and I’m sorry, we have a top manager. Please do not call me arrogant because what I say is true. I’m European champion, I’m not one out of the bottle, I think I’m a special one.”

When you look back on his first time as the Blues manager, it is hard to argue with him even if he could not deliver the Champions League for Chelsea he still managed two Premier League titles, one FA Cup and two League Cups which is better than any other manager has done (of course no other manager has had three plus seasons as Mourinho did but still).

Jose came out with another classic when asked about getting the sack while in charge of Chelsea, he said, “If the club decide to sack me because of bad results that’s part of the game. If it happens I will be a millionaire and get another club a couple of months later.”

You gotta love the bullish nature of the man – he is truly a man of his convictions who can deal with the consequences of his decisions and is accountable for them – pretty awesome traits for a manager.

Jose has always had his share of admirers and people having a laugh with him as Sheffield United boss at the time Neil Warnock did when he said “My wife will be glad about Mourinho coming to Bramall Lane because he’s a good looking swine, isn’t he?”

Many of the Premier League managers and administrators have a great relationship with Mourinho but of course the same cannot be said for people everywhere as the Portuguese manager has had his share of controversies. His three year spell in Spain, in charge of Real Madrid was an all time high for a man who has never been far from the headlines no matter which country he has been working in.

Mourinho’s relationship with Barcelona managers and staff has been particularly sour with numerous bust-ups on the side lines at El Classico’s during his time in charge of Real Madrid. When asked about the Special One returning to the Premier League with Chelsea, Barcelona vice-president Carles Vilarrubi said “It is not good for English football. If Mourinho behaves like he did in Spain it will only be an unhappy relationship. In his three years in Spain he only created disagreements and arguments. I am happy he is leaving and so is everyone in Spanish football.”

So I think we can safely say that Vilarrubi is not Jose’s number one fan but anyway you can’t please everyone least of all your main rival.

So we can’t wait for June 10th and the official press conference to announce the return of the Special One on a four year contract where naturally we can expect a selection of insightful, amusing, intelligent and truly memorable quotes to add to the numerous ones already attributed to Mr Mourinho. You can read more quotes and comments in this BBC Sport article where they give an in-depth look at his many controversies, trophies and quotes.
