Journalist Reveals Chelsea Have Reached Critical Stage Of Talks For 30M Rated Target

Chelsea could well be closing in on their seventh senior signing of the transfer window, with discussions having reached a “crucial stage” with Rennes over a deal for goalkeeper Edouard Mendy, according to Kevin Palmer.

The Sunday World journalist, who has been somewhat reliable when it comes to Chelsea news recently, believes that a move for the Senegalese international is being actively worked on, although the Blues are still considering other options too:

Mendy’s asking price could well be a major obstacle to the deal going ahead. There were reports earlier this week that Rennes will demand in excess of £30m for the 28-year-old, with the Ligue One side not needing to sell after qualifying for the Champions League.

Chelsea could still move on to other targets, with Ajax’s Andre Onana, Burnley’s Nick Pope and Manchester United’s Sergio Romero having been mentioned in recent days. It does look as though the London club won’t be pursuing Lille’s Mike Maignan after they were put off by the Frenchman’s asking price.
