Jorginho reveals the reason he snubbed Manchester City for Chelsea this summer

Jorginho says decided to join Chelsea over Manchester City this summer in order to work with Maurizio Sarri.

The Italy midfielder was heavily linked with both clubs during the summer after an impressive season in Serie A with Napoli.

Manchester City were confident of landing the 26-year-old, however had him stolen from under their noses by the Blues, who secured his signature for £50 million back in July.

And Jorginho has now revealed that the opportunity to work with Maurizio Sarri again, whom he played under for three seasons at Napoli, was too good to turn down.

Asked about his decision to sign for Chelsea rather than City, Jorginho told ESPN Brazil: “There are a lot of things behind a negotiation process.

“I believe Sarri’s arrival played a big part on it.

“And there’s also the greatness of Chelsea, such a big club. So these factors helped me making my mind.”

Asked about his relationship with the Chelsea boss, he added: “Yes, it’s pretty good. He’s always bantering, joking with me.

“He didn’t call me, because he’s not the type to be phoning players, but of course, through agents, I knew what his wish was and what kind of work would be put in here.”
