Despite a solid performance in the Amazon’s humid Manaus, England failed to grab three points against Italy in their first Group D match of Brazil 2014 and now face a “do or die” match against Uruguay in the hope of trying to salvage their World Cup campaign.

A Mario Balotelli header snatched victory for Italy last weekend after a valiant performance from Hodgson’s side, where players such as Raheem Sterling showed they could adapt to the international stage. With two games left in Group D, a win against Uruguay would put England a step closer to the last 16 but with the likes of the fit-again Luis Suarez and Edison Cavani lining up for Uruguay it is certainly going to require Hodgson’s men to deliver a faultless defensive display with the attack also firing and grabbing more than a solitary goal.
