John Terry Delivers Title Race Verdict As He Explains Why Potter Has A “Tough” Decision To Make

Chelsea legend John Terry has written off the club’s chances of winning the Premier League title this season.

After their narrow 2-1 victory against Crystal Palace on Saturday, the Blues are eight points behind leaders Arsenal with a game in hand, and Terry believes manager Graham Potter must now decide whether he prioritises a top-four finish or looks to lift his first trophy:

“It’s been five years since we won the Premier League. Is that going to change this year? No. So you’re looking at the FA Cup, Carabao Cup, European Cup… it’s going to be tough. So then all of your eggs are going to be in two baskets domestically, and actually, you need to keep players fit so do you rest and rotate players to make sure they get in the top four? What’s the priority? Only Potter will know that.”

It shouldn’t really be an ‘either/or’ scenario. Chelsea have the squad to challenge on all fronts, so securing Champions League qualification whilst winning one or more of the cups should be a realistic goal.

Of course, performances will have to improve to achieve those ambitions, and Potter will hope that sealing his first victory as the club’s manager will increase confidence in the dressing room.

The Blues host Serie A champions AC Milan in the Champions League on Wednesday night, which will certainly be a stern test, but getting a result is vital after failing to win their first two group matches.
