Ivanovic seemingly happy to comply with Chelsea’s contract policy for players over 30

Despite being one of Chelsea’s best players of the season, Branislav Ivanovic will only be granted a one year extension to his current contract.

Ivanovic has started negotiations for a new deal which will probably keep him at Stamford Bridge until 2017. The 31 year old Serbian who has simply exploded this season, is apparently handling his contract renewal all by himself, having no agents involved in the process. According to the Daily Express, the six goals he scored this season and his impeccable performances in the defense will surely make discussions short and to the point. Just like with Terry who is also having an amazing season, Chelsea plan on sealing the deal before June at the latest.

The Serbian has been with the club for 8 years and will probably make it to a decade if he keeps it up. His dedication and his skill have determined many to characterize him as Chelsea’s best player which is saying a lot considering he is performing alongside Hazard, Courtois and Diego Costa. Ivanovic is set to accept a £90,000-a-week deal which despite being half of what some of his colleagues make, is still nothing short of amazing for a 31 year old defender.

Ivanovic and Terry are not the only ones receiving good news from the club’s management. Nemanja Matic is also expected to sign an improved deal which will get him a well-deserved increase in salary and probably another year added to his current deal which ends in 2019.
