“It’s Almost Unfair…” Ian Wright Explains Why 88M Chelsea Signing Is Struggling And Makes Arsenal Claim

Arsenal legend Ian Wright says he feels “sorry” for Chelsea forward Mykhailo Mudryk after his difficult start to life at Stamford Bridge.

The Ukrainian was a long-term target for the Gunners, but the Blues hijacked the deal by agreeing to pay £88m for the winger during the January transfer window. Wright claims that the whole circus around the transfer affected the player:

“Mudryk, for his own sake, I do feel sorry for him because I don’t know if there’s anyone in the history of football who’s had to have a transfer of that amount of money with so much politicalness around him. It’s almost unfair.”

Wright also made the claim that Mudryk “wouldn’t” have made the same impact as Leandro Trossard anyway if he had decided to join Arsenal, which is probably true considering his early performances for Chelsea.

Of course, no new signing should be judged on their first few games, and it could be the case that the 22-year-old simply needs a good pre-season under his belt.

Mudryk’s price tag certainly adds greater pressure but fans will need to be patient. While he is still relatively young and inexperienced, the Blues have invested so much money in him as they believe in his potential.
