It Is Looking Like PSG Are Beating Chelsea To Cavani

Paris St. Germain’s persistence to sign Edinson Cavani seems to be paying off, as reports emerging from France suggest Chelsea may be beaten to the signature of the Napoli striker, who played exceptionally well for Uruguay in the Confederations Cup.

Chelsea have been trying their best to strengthen the frontline, but have been unsuccessful in doing so as yet, given the emergence of newfound financial muscle at certain clubs in Europe. This proved to be a hurdle in the potential transfer of former Atletico Madrid striker Radamel Falcao, who had contractual issues, needing heavy financial muscle to solve. And Monaco emerged as the club who eventually stepped up and solved the problem of third party ownership, and used their billionaire owner’s monetary power to sign the Columbian striker.

Jose Mourinho is desperate to add to the level of quality in the current Chelsea side, to bring it up to the level of the Chelsea squad which saw him win two Barclays Premier League crowns in consecutive seasons in his first stint at the club. At the time, players like Didier Drogba and Frank Lampard were in their golden days, and led the squad with confidence, and won title after title. Mourinho faces a similar challenge this time around, but with less favorable circumstances, as this time, multiple clubs are armed with the financial muscle capable of buying the best players around the world.

PSG are one such club, who have emerged as a serious force, after being bought by the Qatar Investment Authority group, pumping in funds for the best players. Given Cavani’s recent success in the Confederations Cup, the player’s demands could be sky high in terms of the contract, and according to The Express, Chelsea will have to match PSG’s offer and then some if they have any chance of signing the player with Leonardo the PSG Director saying that the transfer was close after the team held discussions last week with president of Napoli, Aurelio De Laurentiis.

When speaking regarding the potential deal, Leonardo said,

“We presented De Laurentiis with an offer that I consider really interesting. The negotiations continue. We will remain in contact and, in these next few days, there could be news.”

So it seems like the French clubs are getting another one over on the British clubs. After Falcao’s move to Monaco and now the potential move of Cavani to another French club in PSG, it certainly looks like Ligue 1 is becoming more and more attractive to play in and getting closer to the Premier League.
