Ethan Ampadu is expected to play at centre-back for Chelsea alongside Andreas Christensen in tonight’s Europa League game against Vidi.
The Welsh international has been used mostly as a holding midfielder for club and country at senior level, but many see the 18-year-old’s future at centre-half.
Chelsea supporters on Twitter are intrigued to see how Ampadu fares in the position alongside Christensen tonight:
I’m so excited?

That pairing would be good

I’m actually more excited to see Ampadu as he was absolutely amazing in pre season and we all know his talent

Yep. When Ampadu is Rudigers age he will be miles better.
I’d start Ampadu in the league now. He is actually more ready than CHO for league games IMO.

I would literally leave anyone whose going to be in the starting XI v Brighton at home and tbf most of the senior squad. But I know Sarri wouldn’t be that extreme so I expect the fringe players to start along with Hudson Odoi and possibly Ampadu this time

Some see the Welshman’s chance tonight to stake a claim for the fourth choice centre-half position in the squad with Gary Cahill tipped to leave Stamford Bridge in January.
The 32-year-old hasn’t trained in Hungary due to an unspecified injury, and manager Maurizio Sarri has gone for a youthful looking squad with the Blues having already topped the group.
It will be a test for Chelsea’s youngsters, however, with Vidi still able to qualify in second place ahead of BATE Borisov. Ampadu will certainly have a challenge on his hands if he is picked to start at centre-back.
