If Chelsea can stop Hazard deal, they can challenge for the best this summer

Chelsea have been at the top of the English game for well over a decade now and, in that time, have more than made their mark on the European stage, making it to two Champions League finals, winning one and picking up a Europa League title along the way.

Whilst the Blues are one of the bigger clubs in world football, and set for their second Premier League title in three years this season, there is no denying clubs such as Manchester United are still a more attractive prospect to players in the transfer market.

Antonio Conte’s side have enjoyed an outstanding season during his first spell in English football, however, there is one worry for fans at Stamford Bridge going into the summer, the future of their star man Eden Hazard.

The Belgium international has been mooted as a top target for Spanish giants and current holders of the Champions League, Real Madrid.

Whilst few fans, when being honest, could begrudge the former Lille man a move to Zinedine Zidane’s side, should the powers that be in west London manage to keep hold of their main man in the event of serious interest from the Spanish capital, it would mark turning point in their stature as a club.

Should the winger, who has bagged himself 14 goals and setup a further five in the Premier League so far this season, opt to stay at Stamford Bridge, it would send a message to the rest of Europe’s best, of which Hazard is firmly a member, that Chelsea are a club with huge potential over the next few years.

The passion and success of Conte, along with the knowledge that stars such as the No.10 are committed to the club for the foreseeable future and a stunning new stadium on the horizon makes Chelsea a highly attractive prospect, taking them up a notch closer to, or even on a par with, their Manchester rivals.

Thanks to the lucrative TV deals and money ploughing into the Premier League from every corner of world football, most clubs in the top five or six have the same spending power when it comes to splashing on players. After their bank balance comes the reluctance of managers and owners to spend such sums, which the likes of Roman Abramovich is clearly happy to do.

Once clubs have come to terms with the sums they will be forking out over a summer, it is then over to them to convince players that their club is the best place to be. Over the years Chelsea have not been one for signing ready-made superstars, however, keeping Hazard this summer could just change that.
