If Asmir Begovic Leaves Could Either Of These Keepers Be Signed?

As previously reported, Chelsea will likely have to get a 3rd keeper to cover for Begovic’s departure. While the Blues do have some options, which are somewhat homegrown, it appears that Conte will want to sign a more experienced keeper rather than to put his trust in Matej Delac or Nathan Baxter who for some reason, no one expects to see returning to Stamford Bridge. So, the option of re-calling an on-loan player is unlikely which means a transfer could be in place. According to Metro, Begovic might be around until the end of January as Conte plans on using him in the FA Cup and also plans on doing whatever is possible to keep the Serbian international around.

Reports are suggesting two possible replacements for the 29-year-old Begovic who seemingly will not be convinced to stay.

The first alternative is former Real Madrid man, Diego Lopez. The Spaniard is now 35 and under contract with Milan who sent him on loan to Espanyol. Given his age, he probably wouldn’t say no to an offer from Chelsea, an offer which should allow him to end his career playing for a massive club. Lopez who has also played for Sevilla and Villarreal is out of contract with Milan in 2018 which means this would be the Italian side’s last chance to make some money off of the keeper who came free of charge to Serie A.

The other alternative could be Tim Krul apparently, who is now on loan with Ajax. The good thing about him is that he has played a lot of Premier League football as a member of Newcastle’s squad for many years. His contract will expire in 2018 and just as with Lopez, it would probably be Newcastle’s last chance to make some money off of his transfer.

It will be interesting to see if Begovic does indeed leave Stamford Bridge and if he does go who will replace him.
