Talks between Mason Mount and Chelsea over a new contract have stalled, according to reports in the English media.
The 24-year-old is said to be unhappy that he is not being offered a salary that matches that of other senior players in the first-team squad. Fans on Twitter are very much split over whether Mount deserves the sort of pay rise he is demanding, with some even believing he should be sold if he doesn’t put pen to paper on a new deal:
I pray they sell him ASAP

We look back at the players chelsea have lost at a similar age to mount and we will regret treating our own players like this

His talent is not good enough to get €300k/week

He was a ‘must keep’ and had good form just last season. We should stop being short sighted

Send him to Portsmouth his fav club. Not worth giving him 100k a week. Dude just stealing a living by being an average player.

I am not asking for him to be paid 250k, but his current run of form is temporary, Let’s not do another De Bryune. We know how good Mount is, let’s not pretend all of a sudden. Imagine man utd sold Rashford at the end of last season

In some ways, you do understand where Mount is coming from. It is believed that the England international is earning just £80,000 a week, which is a long way off the Blues’ top earner Raheem Sterling (£325,000 a week).
He is a regular starter so he will feel that his demands are not excessive. However, the club are trying to cut the wage bill and it appears they are not prepared to give him a sizeable increase.
With clubs like Liverpool reportedly keeping an eye on Mount’s situation, doubts are growing about the midfielder’s future at Stamford Bridge.
