I Left Chelsea By Choice – Torres

Fernando Torres has always struggled to justify his £50 million price tag and has failed to recapture his Liverpool form ever since he joined the Blues in January 2011. He was expected to stay with Chelsea in the summer but joined AC Milan in the last few days of the summer transfer window.

He has recently stated that it was his choice to leave Chelsea and that he wasn’t forced out of the exit door, according to the Daily Mail. He said, “Mourinho has always been good to me. The decision to leave was a personal one because I needed more, I needed to feel important. Mourinho and I have a good relationship and still today we continue to talk to each other.”

The 30-year-old was also linked to his boyhood club Atletico Madrid but claims no deal was ever in place. He said, “There wasn’t a real option to return. They speculated with it and I didn’t like that. I’ve said it many times, I won’t go to Atletico to retire. I will go if I have motivation to compete because the Atletico of today is very different than when I was there. I follow them every weekend. It (returning) is an option that isn’t real.”

Well we could never doubt Torres’ application as I genuinely believed that he really did try his best and he did still manage to win trophies in his spell at the Bridge (1 Champions League, 1 Europa League and 1 FA Cup is still pretty impressive not to mention his international honours of 1 European Championships and 1 World Cup) but he just never hit the heights which he delivered in that season where Liverpool ran United close for the title under Rafa Benitez and Torres was unbelievable scoring a hat-trick and terrorising Vidic and Ferdinand all game in a 4-0 Liverpool win at Old Trafford. Shame it just never really worked out but still gotta like the guy as he never had a bad attitude and always gave his best.
