I Have No Regrets About Chelsea Move – Kevin De Bruyne

Chelsea midfielder Kevin De Bruyne has reacted positively to his recent omission from the Blues squad by insisting to fight for his place in the starting eleven.

The 22-year-old has spent the last two seasons on loan away from Chelsea, where his improved performances and maturity gave reason for Mourinho to bring him back and join the first team at Stamford Bridge.

He was initially loaned out to Racing Genk, from where he was originally signed, for the second half of the 2011-12 season. The winger was then shipped out to Werder Bremem on a season-long loan deal for the 2012-13 season.

The diminutive midfielder scored 10 goals and provided 9 assists in 33 league appearances for the German club last summer, but he could not help the club achieve a top-ten finished as they ended the campaign in 14th place.

With Mourinho back at the helm at Chelsea, and De Bruyne enjoying a productive pre-season under the Special One, the Belgian was expected to shine at the club. The talented midfielder put in a decent shift when he twice featured, with one appearance coming from the bench, in the opening three league matches.

However, he has failed to feature in the subsequent league matches and even failed to make the squad for the all-important Champions League tie away to Steaua Bucharest just before the World Cup qualifiers.

His omission from the squad led some to believe that he should have continued his development at Werder Bremen, with the Chelsea move happening too soon in his career. His lack of playing time will also harm his chances of making Belgium’s squad for the World Cup next summer in Brazil.

However, according to ESPN, De Bruyne has no regrets linking up with the Blues this season and is determined to stay and fight for his place. He said, “I chose to stay [instead of going on loan] and I have no regrets. I continue to fight hard. My chance will come. I’m really not concerned about finding a solution in January. That we will have to see.”

He added, “I really don’t worry. You make it more of a problem than I do. Mourinho is the boss, he chooses who plays. We do not talk about it really. He tells me when I do something bad, but frankly I haven’t heard such negative comments.”
