Chelsea defender Andreas Christensen has said he isn’t considering leaving the Blues at the moment despite his lack of matches.
New manager Maurizio Sarri has favoured the centre-back pairing of David Luiz and Antonio Rudiger this campaign, with the Danish international having to be satisfied with a place on the bench.
Christensen broke into the first team under Antonio Conte last campaign, and he says he is finding the reduction in game time difficult. When asked whether he thinks his future lies away from Chelsea, he said:
“Difficult question. No, I don’t think so. Things are different from last season. I played a lot of games [last season] but this season it hasn’t been like that. It’s always difficult for a player but we’ll see what happens.”
Fans on Twitter had a mixed reaction to the comments. Some believe Sarri should drop Luiz:
I can't blame him. We are playing an error prone defender with no scope of improvement at 32, as opposed to polishing a young diamond who's ready to blossom. Short-termism @ChelseaFC is baffling.

I would pick him over Luiz anyday, but his attitude ****s. He’s a crying baby ?

A big fan of his. I prefer him to Luiz however; 1) stop getting injured every single time you get on the pitch 2) stop moaning each time someone holds a microphone to your face.

Christensen shouldn't be sold. Cahill and Luiz don't get younger, we need 3-4 Cb in our squad and he's still very young. Maybe the Barcelona games in spring came to early in his development but he will be the future of chelsea's defence #chelsea #cfc #chelseafc #christensen

While other supporters want Christensen to get his head down and work hard to get back into the starting line up:
Another one who needs to man up fight for his place and when he gets chance – take it. Same as RLC

Not the footballing CB Sarri likes. Needs to improve that side of his game to break the Luiz/Rudiger partnership. I really hope he can.

Chelsea CB usage since September 20 (first midweek match):
Rüdiger: 700min
David Luiz: 670min
Christensen: 500min
Cahill: 470minSo here’s Christensen complaining some more about how "not playing is not fun". Huh?#CFC https://t.co/oN6Lh7O5dv

When is Christensen gonna realise he needs to fight for a place in our team?

The 22-year-old has still started six matches this campaign, although he hasn’t had a single minute of action in the Premier League. In both Carabao Cup matches, he was substituted by Sarri which raised a few eyebrows, indicating the Italian isn’t entirely happy with the Dane’s performances.
However, he has been given the full 90 minutes in all four of Chelsea’s Europa League group games so far.
