How Old Are Your Strikers Exactly, Jose?

Jose Mourinho is someone who often does not think twice before making a comment in the press. Brash, direct and outspoken in nature, he is known to provide the ideal fodder for the press who love the Portugese’s press conferences, and make sure that he always makes the headlines.

This time is no different with the former Real Madrid coach as he has been recorded questioning his own striker, Chelsea’s Samuel Eto’o’s real age. He was speaking to French daily L’Equipe and was understood to be unaware that the camera was still rolling. He publicly said, “The problem with Chelsea is that I lack a scorer. I have Eto’o but he is 32 years old … maybe 35, who knows?”

The ill-informed nature of this statement stems from the past, where African players have been known to lie about their age, turning back the clock by a few years for professional purposes. However, Mourinho believes that there is a possibility that Eto’o too is one of them, as Metro have reported. This comes as a shock for people related to the London club, given the fact that Mourinho and Eto’o have both worked together previously during the duo’s time at Inter Milan.

This is their second stint together, and this statement coming from Mourinho who knows Eto’o pretty well after all these years you would imagine, is somewhat baffling.
