How Chelsea Could Raise The 150M They Need For Haaland By Selling 12 Players This Summer

Numerous reports suggest that Borussia Dortmund would consider selling Erling Haaland for around €175m (£150m) this summer.

At the moment, Chelsea have not made a formal approach and one of the likely reasons why they haven’t done so yet is that they need to raise the funds necessary to meet Dortmund’s asking price.

Interestingly enough, the Blues do have a number of players in the first-team squad who may have no future at the club, and could be used to finance the deal for Haaland.

How have we come to that conclusion? It may sound like we’re playing Football Manager, but we have sourced the asking prices of these 12 players from various news outlets so press the next page to see the results:

Defenders For Sale

Kurt Zouma – £25m – Everton and Roma are believed to be interested in the France international, who is said to be one of the players manager Thomas Tuchel is open to selling.

Emerson Palmieri – £17m – Napoli are thought to be the team most interested in the Italian but they are reluctant to meet Chelsea’s €20m (£17m) asking price. We shall see if that changes.

David Zappacosta – £7m – We are basing the Italian’s valuation on his Transfermarkt value as there is no other data but, after a successful season with Genoa, he could be offloaded for a higher amount.

Total:  £49m

Midfielders For Sale

Tiemoue Bakayoko – £20m – Reports in Italy suggest that Chelsea are demanding a pretty high fee for the Frenchman due to the fact that both AC Milan and Napoli are interested in him.

Ross Barkley – £18m – After an indifferent loan spell at Aston Villa, it may be difficult to get the attacking midfielder off the club’s books. Even so, his Transfermarkt valuation remains quite high so if Chelsea receive a fee close to that figure, they will be happy.

Kenedy – £6.3m – The Brazilian is likely to be sold if a buyer can be found. Flamengo are believed to be interested with the Blues keen on recouping the amount they paid Fluminense for the player back in 2015.

Total: £44.3m

Forwards For Sale

Tammy Abraham – £40m – This asking price may be a bit optimistic but the likes of West Ham and Aston Villa could get close to this figure if they do firm up their interest in the England international.

Michy Batshuayi – £15m – The Belgian’s price tag has been reported in the English media recently, and it is said to have already put off Leeds United. Even so, it would be a decent figure if a team were prepared to pay it.

Ike Ugbo – £5m – Watford, Fulham, Racing Genk and Monaco are all pursuing the 22-year-old’s signature so this sale looks very likely to happen this summer.

Total: £60m

Players Already Sold

Fikayo Tomori has already been offloaded to AC Milan for approximately £25m, while Victor Moses has been sold to Spartak Moscow for around the £4m mark. Olivier Giroud could soon join them in leaving Stamford Bridge with AC Milan thought to be close to signing him for an initial €1m (£850,000).

If all of those players are sold for the prices mentioned, it would total £183m; more than enough to get Haaland in through the door.
