‘He’s Ready’ Mourinho Backs 21 Year Old To Shine At Chelsea Under Lampard

Former Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho is backing Tammy Abraham to make it at the Blues. The 21-year-old spent last season out on loan at Aston Villa, but he has returned to Stamford Bridge to become part of Frank Lampard‘s first team this season. Mourinho says that the England international is ready to make the step up:

“You want a young striker – Tammy Abraham! He’s yours. He knows the club. He was made at the club, he was educated at the club. He was on loan, he played already some matches in the Premier League, he plays in the Championship but at the highest level with the responsibility to play at a big club like Aston Villa. He’s ready.”

At Villa last campaign he showed that he is a very capable finisher, hitting the back of the net 26 times in all competitions.

However, Abraham will be competing with both Olivier Giroud and Michy Batshuayi for a starting place under Lampard. He featured in Chelsea’s 5-3 win over Red Bull Salzburg last night, but he didn’t get on the scoresheet.

With just 10 days to go before the club’s opening league match of the campaign against Manchester United, we won’t have to wait long to find out who has won the race to be the club’s first-choice striker.
