Chelsea youngster Tariq Lamptey was given his senior debut by Frank Lampard against Arsenal yesterday and the defender impressed observers with his performance.
The 19-year-old replaced Fikayo Tomori just before the hour mark in the 2-1 win and he performed well playing at right-back. Fans on Twitter were very happy with the player’s display:
He was immense ✅

Everyone was confused as to who he was and why Frank was bringing him on. His pace and energy is what we needed, also a more accustomed right back

Lamptey’s current contract at Stamford Bridge expires in the summer, and the Blues will be very keen to keep the England Under 20 international following such an assured performance.
The teenager does, though, have a battle on his hands if he wants to get more first-team opportunities. Reece James missed the win over the Gunners due to an ankle injury but the fullback is certainly above Lamptey in the pecking order at the moment.
Even so, Lampard will be delighted he has another fullback he can call upon if he wants an alternative to captain Cesar Azpilicueta.
