Chelsea defender Marcos Alonso says he is flattered by reports linking with a move to Real Madrid.
Although he insisted that he is content to stay at Stamford Bridge, the Spaniard refused to rule out a move this summer:
‘I am very happy here but we will see what happens this summer. There is always talk (like this). Is it a compliment? Yes. It means I’m doing well if other teams are trying to get in touch.”
“But first of all, I’m focussing on the final. I am very happy to have four more years here and hopefully, I will stay many more years here.”
Understandably, fans on Twitter were not too happy with Alonso’s comments, particularly as they have come only a few days before the Europa League final against Arsenal:
He must leave

I wonder how these players do this. Few days to the UEL final. Couldn’t he have waited.

Oh well he hasn’t set the world alight this season

When he isn’t scoring or assisting he doesn’t contribute much because his defending isn’t great. Can’t believe we haven’t got a left back in the academy who isn’t as good as or better than him.

Alonso only signed a new five-year contract back in October which makes the comments all the more surprising.
The 28-year-old did hint at possible friction with manager Maurizio Sarri by stating that his form has dipped partly because of a change in role under the Italian.
Still, making such comments in a build up to a major European final certainly isn’t helpful. Alonso has barely featured for Chelsea in Europe this season and it is expected that Emerson Palmieri will start at left back in Baku.
