Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has been full of praise for Jorginho following the Italian’s good form at the start of this season.
The 27-year-old was criticised at times during his first campaign at Stamford Bridge, but after taking over from Maurizio Sarri in the summer, Lampard has seen nothing but good things from the midfielder both in training and in matches:
“He played some great through-balls against Liverpool and I know he can do it. He can do what’s asked of him and he is eager to do it. I love his spirit, how he trains and how he plays. I keep going on about that but it’s infectious and it’s important.”
“I watched him last year and I thought he finished the season really well but you only really know a player when you see them day in and day out. From the first day of training, he showed me instantly his quality and his attitude. I am actually fortunate to have Jorginho.”
Fans on Twitter were backing Lampard’s remarks about Jorginho, with the Italian international having excelled in his new role so far:
He is afantastic player.

Most fans don’t really understand the game and can’t distinguish between the player and the role the player is instructed to play. Often 2 different things

It makes you wonder how all those who bood him feel now?

Tall about knowing a good player. Pep wanted him, Jose confirmed him as the best midfielder in the league and now the gaffer is drooling over him.
Jorginho is a very good player. Never doubted his abilities. Every top club in the epl will wish they have him.— Kingteezee (@kingteezee) 27 August 2019
Think when everyone is fit he plays him and Kante ,not Kovacic,as well as he played on Saturday ..! once RLC & CHO are fit don't think Kovacic makes the starting 11…just my opinion…

It is fair to say that Jorginho was unfairly criticised last season, with him taking the brunt of the criticism for Sarri’s style of play, but it is clear to see he is one of the leaders in the squad.
With his passing range, he can direct play from the middle of the pitch, and despite some tipping him to be benched by Lampard following his appointment, he has already emerged as one of the Chelsea boss’s key players.
