Hazard Gives Chelsea Injury Concern

Wing wizard Eden Hazard has given Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho a cause for concern, as he hobbled off the pitch while training for national side Belgium in the international break week, leading to what could be a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

Mourinho’s arrival at Stamford Bridge has brought in endless expectations for the Portuguese manager. But the ‘Special One’ would have been pleased to take over a squad which was dominated by talented individuals who were experienced in winning trophies. Members of the squad had won both European crowns in the UEFA Champions League and the UEFA Europa League in consecutive seasons, giving them immense confidence to go into the new season. However, the job came with its concerns too, especially the worrying form of Spanish striker Fernando Torres, who had been misfiring consistently over the last seasons. Mourinho is popular around the world for his knack of recognizing potential in players who lose confidence on the pitch, and his man management skills are unquestionable. Torres certainly would benefit from Mourinho’s skills, and could regain his form this season.

The season has started with highs and lows for Chelsea. What began with victories at Stamford Bridge against Hull City and Aston Villa soon lost some of its shine when the Blues faced Bayern Munich in the final of the UEFA Super Cup. The final went into extra time with the teams level, but Romelu Lukaku missed his penalty in the shootout which gave the Germans the trophy.

Hazard has been one of the most influential wingers in the Chelsea squad. He was recognized for his talent back in France when he represented Lille FC. He was wanted by Europe’s biggest clubs, including Manchester United and Manchester City. However, it was Chelsea who emerged victorious in the bid to sign him.

According to the Daily Mail, Hazard had been training with the Belgium squad in their final session before the World Cup qualifier against Scotland, and the winger walked off in pain, raising alarm bells at Stamford Bridge, with an important chunk of the season to go in the Barclays Premier League. Hazard was kept out of the 2-0 win over the Scots and did not even make the bench so we will have to see what kind of condition he is in when he returns to Chelsea, fortunately Belgium do not have another fixture this week so Hazard has some recovery time.
