Hazard Could Return For Make-Or-Break Clash

The re-arranged clash between Chelsea and Spurs takes place this Wednesday evening, and it seems that it could be the pivotal match which decides in whose favour the pendulum will swing regarding both club’s top-four aspirations.

Chelsea are currently in pole position as they sit in third place on 68 points, having a three-point lead over fifth-placed Spurs. Arsenal are sandwiched in between the two on 67 points, and they sit one point below and two points above Chelsea and Spurs respectively, albeit having played a game more.

If Chelsea win, they are guaranteed Champions League football next season as they would then have a six-point lead over Spurs, with a vastly superior goal difference. However, a Spurs win would mean both clubs would be level on 68 points, and they would sit one point above Arsenal with two league games left to play, who would be pushed below into the Europa League spot.

Recent history between the two clubs suggests that Chelsea have the advantage, having not lost to their London rivals in six previous occasions. They won 4-2 at White Hart Lane earlier this season, and the reverse fixture at the Bridge ended 0-0 last season.

Chelsea will be further boosted by the news that their attacking midfielder Eden Hazard could return against Spurs. The Belgium international sat out the 1-0 win at Old Trafford, but Benitez has confirmed that he could line up at the Bridge to face Spurs, who won 1-0 at home to Southampton courtesy of a super goal by none other than Gareth Bale.

According to the Ealing Gazette, Benitez said, “Hazard could be available for Wednesday. But it will not be easy. The physios are working with him, so we will just have to wait and see.”

Hazard has been in tremendous form for the Blues this season, and his 9 league goals in 32 appearances means he has had a stellar debut season. He has shone alongside Mata in midfield this season, who scored the winner against Man United last weekend to seal the three points.

Could the availability of Hazard buoy Chelsea to yet another win and cement their top-four spot, or will the Player of the Year Gareth Bale have a say in the proceedings?
