Havertz V Sancho: Who Would Be A Better Signing For Chelsea? We Compare Four Key Stats

Although Bayer Leverkusen’s Kai Havertz and Borussia Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho are very different players, it appears Chelsea have decided that they will go after one of these two players when the transfer window opens.

Sancho is ostensibly a conventional winger, playing from the right-hand side, using his speed, strong right foot to score goals and provide assists.

Havertz, on the other hand, can play as a number 10, a false nine and out wide with his finishing and technical qualities taking on more importance.

So who would be the better choice? We take a look at four statistics that may help the Blues decide between the two:

Goals And Assists Per 90

Technically two stats but we have decided to put them together here as they both come under the banner of “goal contributions”. On this metric, Sancho firmly comes out on top this season.

The England international is averaging 0.58 goals per 90 minutes, compared to Havertz’s 0.4, while the Dortmund star is also way out ahead in terms of assists, 0.56 per 90, in contrast to the Leverkusen forward’s 0.19.

Key Passes Per 90

Of course, while contributing in front of goal is very important, there are also other aspects of the game that cannot be ignored. A key pass is the final pass before a teammate makes an attempt on goal.

In this stat, Sancho is once again superior, averaging 1.02 key passes per 90, while Havertz is only managing 0.69 in comparison. Neither are bad numbers, but the Dortmund ace is simply better in this regard.

Touches In The Box Per 90

Some attackers can look impressive in moments but at other times can fade in and out of the game. The forwards who have more touches inside the opponent’s penalty box are usually the most consistent and effective.

Again, Sancho is ahead of Havertz, having on average 4.85 touches in the box per 90 compared to his German counterpart’s 3.63.

Final Third Passes Per 90

This stat can measure how brave a player is on the ball in the area of the pitch where they are most likely to lose possession of the ball. Finally, we find a metric where Havertz wins against Sancho.

The German international is averaging 4.13 final third passes per 90, in contrast to the Englishman’s 3.24. It does show the contrast in styles of the two players with Havertz more of a playmaker while the Dortmund star is more likely to dribble than pass in forward areas.
