Chelsea are willing to pay Real Sociedad striker Alexander Isak’s €70m (£60m) release clause, according to reports in the Spanish media.
The Swedish international was named La Liga Young Player of the Year last season, after scoring 17 goals, and he has impressed for his country at the European Championships.
Isak would certainly be a cheaper alternative to the likes of Borussia Dortmund’s Erling Haaland and Tottenham’s Harry Kane, but fans on Twitter are not entirely sure whether the 21-year-old would be a good addition to the squad:
Great backup if we don't get haaland

Abraham is better than this guy

Gladly take him

Top top player, except it’s not Haaland

Hear me out. If we not getting a WC striker, let's go for experience short term striker. I rather give Abraham one more season than signing dude.

Tbh it’s better this way, Isak has massive potential and he wouldn’t destroy the wage structure.

Get Haaland please he’s a full package.
Isak is just a Swedish Abraham.— Marco Felino (@felino_marco) June 20, 2021
Get it done quickly or risk going for Haaland all summer only for him to stay at Dortmund. Isak for 60 million could end up a bargain

£60M for this guy? man please sign haaland, he's only upgrade to this squad

There is no doubt that Isak has huge potential, but Haaland is a year younger than the Swede and his goal record is far superior. It would be harsh to say that the Blues would be settling for second best but, despite the fact he is also being tracked by Liverpool and Arsenal, it would be seen as an underwhelming signing.
Manager Thomas Tuchel is looking for a number nine who can take his team to the next level, and you’d have to say that Haaland is the much better option.
