Good news for Chelsea as star insists he is staying

Chelsea star Willian has insisted he intends to stay at the club beyond the summer, also confirming that there was interest for him from Barcelona.

The Brazilian had been heavily linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge this summer after falling out with former manager Antonio Conte. But new boss Maurizio Sarri coming in has given him an incentive to stay, despite interest from a host of clubs.

Manchester United, Real Madrid and Barcelona all came in for the winger, but the Blues were stubborn with their valuation for their man – not allowing him to leave for less than £75m.

Speaking after Chelsea’s 2-0 Community Shield loss to Manchester City, Willian told ESPN Brasil that he had always wanted to stay at the club.

“I always made it clear that what I wanted was to stay in the club.

“The only club I knew that really made an official offer for me was Barcelona.

“I have my head here and I intend to continue in the club unless the club wants to sell me.”

Chelsea have had a pretty torrid summer so far, having only signed two players in midfielder Jorginho and goalkeeper Rob Green. Plenty of their star players have also been linked with moves away, including Courtois, Hazard and Kante.

But news of Willian’s intent to stay at the club will be a welcomed piece of good news.
