Former Chelsea right-back Glen Johnson feels that Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland would be the perfect addition to the Blues’ squad in the summer.
The likes of Manchester City, Manchester United and Liverpool are also thought to be interested in the Norwegian international but Johnson thinks he could be the right player to replace veteran Olivier Giroud:
“I think someone like Haaland would be ideal. He’d be the perfect replacement for Giroud. He’s big, he’s quick, he’s powerful, he’s unbelievable in front of goal. Those sort of signings give a lift to the rest of the dressing room and it would be a real statement if they could pull it off.”
Reports in Italy suggest that Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich has his heart set on signing Haaland at the end of the season, but it’s likely to be a very tough battle to win.
Not only will there be stiff competition for the 20-year-old’s signature, but Dortmund are expected to demand a very high transfer fee, with the Bundesliga club reluctant to sell their prized asset.
If Haaland were to move to Stamford Bridge, though, it would be a massive coup and would send a signal to Chelsea’s rivals in the Premier League that they are ready to compete for honours.
