Chelsea playmaker Eden Hazard says he is torn between staying at the club and wanting to leave to play for Real Madrid.
Speaking after the Blues’ convincing 3-0 win against Southampton at the weekend, the Belgian international said:
“I don’t want to say: ‘Yes, I am signing a new contract’ and then, in the end, I don’t end up signing. So I will see. Sometimes in my head, I wake up in the morning and think I want to go. Sometimes I think I want to stay. It is a hard decision. It is my future. I am 27 and I will turn 28 in January.”
“That’s why I spoke after the World Cup and I said that I think it is time to change because I played a great World Cup. I am really in the game, I am playing good football at the moment. Real Madrid is the best club in the world. I don’t want to lie today.”
Fans on Twitter are not certain that Hazard will stay and sign a new contract:
Pretty sure sarri will convince him sign a new contract.

Only way we keep him is if we throw the kitchen sink at him, give him 500k a week, he is easily worth it.

I have so much respect for Eden and how he is handling this. Being honest about his childhood ambition, while also being respectful about the club who has given him so much.
A good professional who is having fun and giving his all.

Rather than make him an offer, ask him what it would take to make him sign a 5 year deal before the end of this year. Then when he tells the club they can see how close they can/want to get to it. If he doesn’t then you know he’s going to leave.
All pretty easy really.— Blacklab (@ChelseatheLab) 8 October 2018
The midfielder has been in excellent form so far this season, scoring eight goals and providing three assists in ten matches.
Hazard looks set to better his best ever scoring season for Chelsea, but doubts over his future remain. His current deal expires in 2020 but so far there has been little progress on extending his stay at Stamford Bridge.
Reports in Spain suggest that the Belgian’s comments are designed to soften the blow and prepare supporters when he decides to leave for Madrid in January.
However, it appears Chelsea will do everything in their power to convince Hazard to stay and sign on the dotted line.
