Giroud’s FA Cup stunner one of the competition’s ‘best ever goals’ says former England star

Olivier Giroud’s stunning goal against Southampton is one of the competition’s greatest ever goals says former England star Jermaine Jenas.

The Frenchman opened the scoring just after half-time in Chelsea’s 2-0 win over Mark Hughe’s side this afternoon in their FA Cup semi-final clash.

Fed by Eden Hazard, Giroud produced some stunning footwork to weave in-and-out of two Southampton defenders, before rounding Fraser Forster and prodding home.

And Jenas believes the strike will go down in history as one of the competition’s greatest ever.

“What a goal this is from Olivier Giroud,” Jenas said while commentating on the game.

“This is as good as you’re going to get in the FA Cup I’m telling you.

“It’s one of those goals you are going to see played over and over again.

“The play from Eden Hazard, the ball from Cesc Fabregas, but you’ve got to see the feet and the composure from Olivier Giroud when it comes into him.

“He bides his time, he goes past the whole team! He sticks it in the back of the net, it’s absolutely brilliant.”

The goal was Giroud’s third in the space of a week against Southampton, after netting a brace last weekend in the Blues’ 3-2 victory.
