Giroud already a ‘cult hero’ at Stamford Bridge insist Chelsea fans after Liverpool victory

Chelsea fans believe striker Olivier Giroud is already on the road to becoming a club hero after the Frenchman hit his fifth goal for Antonio Conte’s side yesterday afternoon.

Giroud scored the only goal as Chelsea ran out 1-0 winners against Liverpool to keep alive their hopes of a top four finish.

The strike, a trademark header, was Giroud’s fifth in the the colour Blue since joining the club in January from London rivals Arsenal.

Following the victory, Chelsea manager Antonio Conte praised his side’s performance.

“I think we must be pleased because the players played a really good game and usually when you have to play a must-win game it’s not easy, it’s normal to be a bit nervous, and today was a must-win game, but not with a simple opponent, against Liverpool, who just reached the Champions League final,” said the Italian.

“They are very dangerous with the three strikers and it’s impressive the way they attack and have combinations between them. Today we must be pleased. I saw great desire and a great will to keep our Champions League hopes alive.

“I think we played as a team.”

The Chelsea fans were too pleased to see their side emerge victorious again, and were especially delighted with the performance on one man in particular …
