Gilmour, Colwill, Broja And Gallagher: We Rate Their Chances Of Staying At Chelsea This Summer

There has been A LOT of talk about the futures of some of Chelsea’s younger players over the course of the last week or so.

Debate on social media has reached fever pitch about whether some of these graduates from the Cobham academy deserve to be handed more chances to prove themselves.

However, football is a cut-throat business, and managers are under pressure for immediate success, especially at top clubs where there is no time to blood youngsters in the first team. It means some players could be let go, despite their undoubted talent.

Press the next page, as we rate the chances of four academy stars staying at the Blues beyond the summer.

Billy Gilmour

After being sent back from the club’s pre-season tour of the United States, it appears the writing could be on the wall for the Scottish international.

While another loan move has been posited, Gilmour himself is thought to prefer a permanent departure from Stamford Bridge. He could well be reunited with his former manager Frank Lampard at Everton.

Chances of Staying – 1/5

Levi Colwill

A lot of supporters are excited about the defender’s potential following an excellent loan spell at Championship club Huddersfield Town last season. Some feel he could make the step up to the Blues’ first team much like Reece James and Mason Mount did.

However, Chelsea’s decision to pursue multiple centre-backs this summer has reportedly unsettled Colwill. The likes of Arsenal, Brighton, Southampton and Leicester are all circling if the player decides he should move elsewhere for game time.

Chances of Staying – 3/5

Armando Broja

There was a lot made of the Albanian’s return to England earlier this week, but manager Thomas Tuchel has confirmed it was decided that the striker should leave the first-team squad so he could get some treatment on an ankle injury.

However, there is growing speculation that Chelsea are open to selling Broja, with West Ham reportedly having agreed personal terms already. There is expected to be some negotiation around a buyback clause and sell-on fee but the Albanian’s departure looks very likely.

Chances of Staying – 1/5

Conor Gallagher

The midfielder has remained in the United States with the Blues’ 24-man squad which suggests that Tuchel sees him as part of his first-team plans heading into the new season.

While there is still a chance that could change if a new midfielder arrives before the transfer window closes next month, all the signs point towards Gallagher remaining at Stamford Bridge.

Chances of Staying – 4/5
