German Emerges As Shock Alternative To Lampard For Chelsea Hotseat

Chelsea have added RB Leipzig manager Ralf Rangnick to their shortlist of candidates to take over from Maurizio Sarri, according to BILD.

The tabloid reports that the German tactician has emerged as a surprise alternative to Frank Lampard for the manager’s job at the Blues.

Whether Rangnick is a frontrunner, it seems doubtful, but the 60-year-old has been linked with another high profile role in this country previously.

Following England’s loss to Iceland in Euro 2016, the FA interviewed him for the job as manager before opting to appoint Sam Allardyce instead.

Rangnick had taken a step back from management, having been Leipzig’s sporting director, but he returned to manage the club last campaign after the departure of Ralph Hassenhuttl.

He helped Leipzig to a third-place finish in the Bundesliga, qualifying for the Champions League. He also guided his side to the German Cup final where they lost out to Bayern Munich.
