Freund Drops Big Hint About His Future As Chelsea Line Up New Transfer Chief

Red Bull Salzburg sporting director Christoph Freund has not ruled out a potential switch to Chelsea.

The Blues are thought to be in discussions with a number of different people, including PSG’s football advisor Luis Campos, about heading up their recruitment department and, when asked about the position, Freund replied:

“You should never rule anything out in football and Chelsea are such a huge club. But I’m Sports Director in Salzburg and I really enjoy it. Chelsea is a huge club in transition. I can’t say exactly what will happen in the next few weeks and months.”

Freund went on to say that the Blues are very interested in how Salzburg recruit young players, with the likes of Erling Haaland, Sadio Mane, Naby Keita, Dominik Szoboszlai, Dayot Upamecano and Takumi Minamino having been signed by the Austrian club in recent years.

Undoubtedly, Freund could provide some of that knowledge if he were to make the switch to Stamford Bridge in the coming weeks and months.

The 45-year-old has spent most of his life at Salzburg, coming through the club’s academy as a player before being appointed to a number of managerial roles at the team following his retirement.
