French Club President Reveals Playmaker Is Set To Stay Despite Chelsea And Liverpool Interest

Lyon president Jean Michel Aulas has confirmed that the Ligue One club are close to agreeing a new contract with Nabil Fekir.

The Frenchman has been heavily linked with Chelsea and Liverpool in recent months but Aulas is hopeful that the France international will put pen to paper on a new deal:

“We have made some advances in Fekir’s contract extension, we are discussing it and soon I’ll have to see Nabil, we aren’t in the final stages but in any case we have advanced.”

Fekir’s current contract expires in 18 month’s time with many tipping him to leave Lyon at the end of the season.

This campaign, the Frenchman has been in pretty decent form, having scored 11 goals and provided five assists in 27 appearances.

He was on the scoresheet on Friday night as Lyon came out 2-1 winners over Guingamp, keeping them third in Ligue One.

Liverpool pulled out of signing Fekir last summer because of concerns over a long-term knee injury. The Reds had agreed a £52.8m fee for the 25-year-old at the time.

Chelsea were said to have been watching him in the January transfer window but no move materialised.
