Former Premier League star believes Chelsea should sign Higuain

Chelsea should look to complete the signing of Juventus striker Gonzalo Higuain this summer and build the squad around him.

That’s the thoughts of former Premier League forward Brian McMbride, who says a reunion between Sarri and Higuain would be beneficial to both parties.

Higuain’s place at Juventus is said to be in danger, with the Italian side spending big money to bring Ronaldo to the Allianz Stadium. They have strict FFP regulations to follow, and it has been heavily reported that Higuain is likely to be a casualty of the Portuguese’s shocking move.

The 30-year-old has been linked with a move to Chelsea for several years now, but it seems like there is more chance of it happening this summer than ever before, especially with new manager Sarri being keen to link up with his former player.

Higuain played under Sarri for one season at Napoli, scoring 38 goals in 42 appearances across all competitions, arguably the Argentine’s best ever season.

It has been reported that Chelsea would have to stump up £53m to prise him away from Italy, a relatively small fee when you consider the goals he promises to bring.

And McBride, who is a familiar face in London having played for Fulham for four years, told ESPN FC that Chelsea might be the perfect destination for the striker.

“I do like it. The question then is, can they keep Eden Hazard? That point is very important,” McBride said about the Blues signing Higuain.

“I think he would enjoy it from the standpoint that he would be the main focal point of that attack.

“Everywhere Higuain has gone, where he’s been the main focal point, he’s scored goals.

“Certainly in the last year, not so much with Juventus, but still getting the job done – I still think he has a lot to offer.

“Really, he’s your true goalscorer. He’s not a player who is going to hold the ball up. Whether or not that part gets solved by Chelsea, because they needed it last year, that’s a different question.

“I just think Higuain is gone [from Juve] from my point of view because he wants to be the main person, the main man to score goals.”
