Former Chelsea Midfielder Apologises For Poor Performance On Instagram

Former Chelsea midfielder Jorginho, who now plays for London rivals Arsenal, apologised on behalf of the Italy squad for their poor performance against England on Thursday evening.

In Jorginho’s post, he uploaded two photos. The first shows the Italian national team posing for a team photo, while the second shows them passionately singing the Italian national anthem.

For the post’s caption, Jorginho wrote [translated from Italian]: “We wanted to start by winning the first one in front of a wonderful audience… sorry that didnt go the way we wanted.. anyway, thank you Naples.”

Currently, Jorginho’s post has over 50,000 likes on Instagram. Among those who have liked the post include former Brighton winger Leandro Trossard and Chelsea’s Marc Cucurella.

Italy, in their game against in England, were poor – particularly in the first half, as they entered the break 2-0 down. Additionally, Jorginho was among Gli Azzurri’s worst performers on the night and was hooked on the 69th minute for Sandro Tonali.

Italy largely improved after Jorginho left the field, pushing the Three Lions to their limit – but they could not find an equaliser, as the game ended 2-1, giving England their first away win against Italy in 62 years despite Luke Shaw’s red card.

Jorginho left Chelsea to join Arsenal in the January transfer window – he was purchased by the Gunners for reported fee of £12 million.

The game marked Jorginho’s first return to Naples in a competitive fixture since 2018, when he left Napoli to sign for Chelsea.
