Filipe Luis To Leave Stamford Bridge

Filipe Luis To Leave Stamford Bridge

Chelsea did not hit a home run when signing Filipe Luis who has seemed overwhelmed by the pressure at Stamford Bridge. The Brazilian, although highly experienced and also on an ascending trend, did not meet expectations and had trouble keeping up with his direct competition. According to the Daily Mail, The Blues will be looking to avoid another Torres case and are planning on selling Luis while they still can. The 29 year old was on Atletico’s list even since the winter transfer window when the Spaniards wanted to get their star defender back. It would be a strange return for him though considering the pressure he put on the club to allow him to leave.

The Brazilian was at the end of his contract and refused to sign an extension just to leave for Chelsea at about the same time as Diego Costa. Atletico will be happy to welcome the 29 year old back considering his value has dropped and that they still haven’t found a replacement to rise to his level. Diego Simeone seems to have gotten passed what happened as well and is willing to give Luis a chance.

All that will stand between Atletico and Luis will be Chelsea’s lack of options on the left side. Even if Azpilicueta seems to have settled playing out of position, there is still a matter of replacing him if something goes wrong. Ivanovic could do it but for now he has other duties which he handles excellently.
