Ferguson Offered The Bosses’ Job By The Blues in 2003

The connection between Ferguson and Mourinho seems to be a lot more complicated that you might think. A few weeks back, a Spanish writer published a book in which he revealed that “The Special One” almost cried when finding out Moyes is next in line to manage Manchester United. His reaction came after an entire year of building up expectations.

The Portuguese manager always spoke about how much he loved English football and the Premier League. What he failed to mention each and every time was the team who he hoped he would end up coaching. Everyone thought he had Chelsea on his mind but apparently they were wrong, at least according to the Spanish author who has always had a personal dispute with Mourinho.

A more recent declaration also caused a bit of a fuss at Stamford Bridge. According to Sir Alex Ferguson, Chelsea offered him a job before signing Mourinho. In other words, “The Special One” would not have had the opportunity of coaching the Blues if not for Manchester United’s former boss.

According to ESPN, Ferguson was contacted by one of Abramovich’s people sometime during 2003, just before Mourinho signed. United’s legend told them off just as he would do now even if he left his former club. These particular statements came after several rumors saying that Ferguson should return to take the club back from Moyes who has so far failed to live up to expectations.

Chelsea was first managed by Mourinho between 2004 and 2007. During that period they won the Premier League twice and conquered 2 League Cups, the FA Cup and the Community shield. He is currently one of Chelsea’s most efficient managers alongside Vialli.

Mourinho has returned to Chelsea at the beginning of this summer in hope of helping the Blues win another Premier League title while fighting for Champions League glory. The team is not yet the finished article and some tweaks are to be made. Other than that, Chelsea look like they are on the right path. Hopefully, “The Special One” will manage to win his third Champions League trophy and manage to keep Chelsea on a great streak after the 2012 and the 2013 European trophies.
