Fellaini To Be Chelsea’s First Summer Signing?

It looks like Chelsea are getting serious as far as transfers go. Current rumors place Marouane Fellaini on top of the Blues’ transfer list right next to Falcao. According to reports in numerous publications since Christmas, the Belgian midfielder seems keen on moving to Stamford Bridge and those reports will only increase now especially since his relationship with Everton fans has gone downhill. After his team lost 3-0 to Wigan on Saturday, Fellaini refused to stay for a post-match autograph signing session. Later he explained that he felt disappointed after hearing fans booing him when he was subbed during the match. The official statement was of a reserved nature, the club saying that the signing session was postponed due to some unforeseen circumstances.

The 25 year old midfielder has been on Chelsea’s wish list for well over a year now. It looks like he wants to push through a move away from Everton to West London as his recent performances have not been as intense and dedicated as those that made him one of Everton’s best players. Fellaini is currently under contract, but can leave Everton as long as his £23 million release clause is paid off. This should not be a problem for Chelsea who definitely need someone to replace Lampard.

The Blues might have some serious competition from Manchester United, who are also looking to strengthen their midfield area especially with Anderson’s poor form and with Kagawa not really adjusting to the Premier League so far this season.

Considering the Belgian international’s poor form and the fact that Everton are planning to rebuild their team, it is more than likely we will see Fellaini at Stamford Bridge. It is still uncertain who is going to be Chelsea’s next manager and what players he will target during the summer. If the rumors are true and the Blues will be trained by Mourinho once again, the chances for the Belgian midfielder to sign a deal with Chelsea are unknown considering the Portuguese coach will almost certainly insist on taking complete control of which players will be at Stamford bridge as first team regulars.

This summer will be crazy even when compared to the usual incredibly high volume of news from Chelsea – we can’t wait!
