Falcao On His Way To England?

Radamel Falcao’s wish to leave Atletico Madrid to join one of the elite clubs in Europe has been granted, after the general manager of the club confirmed that the club will not stand in the way of an offer that satisfies both parties.

The Colombian has been the subject to a majority of media speculation in the past few weeks regarding the club he would choose for next season. Early reports suggested that Falcao is ready to move out of Atletico and work his way to his ultimate dream of playing for Real Madrid. However, the striker has been a target for the biggest clubs in England, with Chelsea and Manchester City interested in his services.

Chelsea have been closely monitoring the contractual situation of the player with Atletico, and it was revealed that Falcao was part of a 3rd party ownership deal with the Spanish club. This means that the transfer of the striker from Porto to Atletico was primarily funded by a private 3rd party, which helped complete the deal. Hence, Falcao is not only owned by Atletico, but also by the investment funding group, and this makes a transfer further complicated and expensive.

The 27-year old has been a regular performer for Atletico, and Chelsea are in talks for a deal that sees him at the Bridge next season. The only hurdle in the deal is the extra payment that Abramovich has a problem with.

However, the big news is that Atletico are in the favor of a move if that is what Falcao desires, due to his visible commitment to the cause of the club. This commitment saw Falcao play the Copa del Rey final against Real Madrid, where his club won in extra time.

According to the Metro, Atletico’s general manager, Miguel Angel Gil Marin, the club had promised Falcao that his wish will be granted if he replicates the trust.

Marin explained, “Before the start of the season we talked with [Falcao] and we promised him if he keeps the same performance and he helps us to arrive to the Uefa Champions League next season, Atletico will help you.

“Every decision he will take, Atletico will be with him.”

Talking about how Atletico will survive without Falcao, he continued, “Atletico knows how to change the good striker – Fernando Torres, [Diego] Forlan, [Sergio] Aguero, now Falcao,” he added.

“I don’t know exactly which will be the next one, but you can be sure Atletico will have a strong team next season.”
