Fabrizio Romano Rates Chelsea’s Chances Of Extending Thiago Silva’s Contract

Chelsea centre-back Thiago Silva has “positive feelings” about signing a contract extension with the club, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Italian journalist claims that the Blues are willing to extend his current deal (on the same terms) for another year and he thinks there is a good chance that it will happen:

Silva has been superb since arriving from Paris Saint-Germain in the summer and, with the defender now working under a manager he knows well, in Thomas Tuchel, it should increase the club’s prospects of keeping the 36-year-old.

The Brazilian is currently sidelined with an injury. He strained a thigh muscle in the 1-0 win over Tottenham last week and he missed the 2-1 victory against Sheffield United on Sunday.

Tuchel has confirmed that Silva will also be absent for the FA Cup fifth-round tie versus Barnsley on Thursday, with the centre-half also set to be unavailable for their next league match against Newcastle. A return versus Southampton later this month has been pencilled in.
