Chelsea will open discussions with Thiago Silva about a new contract after the World Cup, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.
The 38-year-old’s current deal expires at the end of the season, but he has continued to play at a very high level, earning praise from manager Graham Potter, and Romano believes talks will be held to see whether the defender wants to stay for another year:
Potter on Thiago Silva: “I’ve really enjoyed working with Thiago, he’s a character – fantastic experience behind him but has a humility to just so the job and that’s nice to see”. 🔵🇧🇷 #CFC

Silva continues to defy expectations in terms of age. There were those who questioned whether the Brazilian could cope with the pace of the Premier League when he first arrived just over two years ago, but he has proven the doubters wrong.
The centre-back has been outstanding throughout his time at Stamford Bridge and it is a testament to his fitness and attitude that he can still play every few days when most players in their late 30s would find it very hard to do so.
