EXCLUSIVE: Gus Poyet Says Chelsea Need To Ensure Summer Signing Is “Comfortable” To Produce For Maresca

Former Chelsea player and Premier League manager Gus Poyet told ChelseaNews exclusively that the club need to ensure that winger Jadon Sancho is comfortable at Stamford Bridge.

Sancho joined the Blues from Manchester United on a loan deal in the summer. Chelsea must buy the winger from United at the end of the season.

The 24-year-old got off to a hot start at Stamford Bridge, but his form has declined recently, and Enzo Maresca has been largely leaving him on the bench.

Sancho‘s made 23 appearances for Chelsea so far this season, scoring two goals and providing six assists, with the majority coming towards the start of the year.

Poyet told ChelseaNews via CryptoCasinosUK: “I think it was a big impact when he arrived [at Chelsea]. I think everybody was like ‘wow, what a player – what happened to him [at United]? But it happened the same when he went from Man U to Germany [on loan to Dortmund] so I think he’s player that needs to be happy.

“From outside [looking in], I don’t know him but, if he’s happy, if he’s comfortable, he can produce. When there started being doubts about him – it’s like he’s lost so it’s more a matter of personality than as a football player.

“As a football player we know the qualities [he possesses]. It cannot be that he can perform at that high level when he’s in a good position [mentally] and then disappear for two or three months so I think it’s more about how he feels personally that affects his game in a positive way and a negative way.”

Do Chelsea have to buy Jadon Sancho?

The deal that was agreed between Man United and Chelsea that the Blues have to buy Sancho for a fee of between £20m and £25m based on how Maresca’s side performs this season.

But there doesn’t seem to be any way that Chelsea can decline the purchase of Sancho, so they will have to hope that his performances can improve with Poyet hopeful that he can assuming he’s comfortable in West London.

Sancho was previously bought by United for a fee of £73m, so the Red Devils are expected to take a hit of at least £48 million on the winger.
