Three Chelsea defenders started England’s 2-1 defeat to France in the Under 21 Championships last night.
Jake Clarke-Salter captained the side, while Fikayo Tomori and Jay Dasilva also played in defence. Both Mason Mount and Tammy Abraham came off the bench.
Fans on Twitter believe the Chelsea starlets performed well for the most part:
Tomori and Clarke Salter were decent.
Mount lost the ball every time he touched it and when Tammy came on he was anonymous

Tomori and Clarke-Salter were excellent. DaSilva was good but the French RW Kone had him beat for pace and was a menace when cutting onto his preferred left-foot to shoot, which is how the first goal happened. Mount & Tammy came on late with England on the backfoot. Didnt do much

Tomori, Clarke-Salter and Dasilva were all really good I’d say, also all had decent seasons too.
Mount not so great but he didn’t even get a full season at Derby due to injuries etc but this one bad game doesn’t mean anything.— Jamie Ratcliffe (@JamieeAllOver_) 18 June 2019
The fact that Chelsea has got 5 players, one of them the captain, playing for the ENG U21, tells you how good the academy of the club is. The best in the country for many years now. Tomori, Clarke-Salter, DaSilva, Mount and Abraham are top talents. They deserve a chance in #CFC

Different set-up, different circumstances. The life of a loan player. I can see why people would rate Tomori over Clarke-Salter but that is beside the point. Thought both of them played really well tonight in difficult circumstances and JC-S has shown his worth to this team.

Da Silva – solid, good on the ball but his size makes his defending iffy
Tomori – great defending most of the night, one bad pass led to the penalty and red card
Clarke-Salter – Solid, not anything note worthy from him
Abraham and Mount – came on late after the bus was parked— N'Goalo (@ngoalokante_) 18 June 2019
As Chelsea fans we were inclined to look at dasilva and tomori and they both played really well but one loanee that deserves a chance in pre season after a quality performance today is jake Clarke salter

Good performance from Tomori and Clarke-Salter, undone by Wan-Bissaka’s silly own goal.

The CB pairing of Clarke-Salter and Tomori have been so good in recycling possession and moving the ball. Tomori impressive in the attacking phase when getting forward. Salter’s long diagonal to Gray in the first half to send him through was pure sauce. #U21Euro

Out of the three that started, Tomori is the likeliest to get games next season in the first team, especially if Frank Lampard is appointed as manager.
The 21-year-old was Derby’s player of the year, playing under Lampard last campaign, and the defender could be afforded match time due to the centre-back options at the club.
David Luiz, Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen will likely be in the frame for starting places while Kurt Zouma will be hoping to get minutes following his return from a loan spell at Everton.
Tomori would likely be the next on the list, and with Lampard clearly a big fan of the player, we could well see more of him in a Chelsea shirt.
