Eto’o Blames Poor National Team Performance On Teammates

Chelsea’s Samuel Eto’o looked helpless against Tunisia, whos defenders managed to block the striker each and every time during the first leg of the World Cup play-offs which took place in October. The Blue’s striker hade some strange post game reactions stating that his teammates decided not the pass the ball to him anymore. According to the Daily Mail, he blamed his lack of efficiency on the fact that the other Cameroonian players plotted against him and said football is a collective game. He was immediately told off by Cameroon’s manager, Volker Fink who insisted Chelsea’s player is making up stories that have no sense.

This was not Eto’o’s first fallout with the national team. He got suspended for 12 games back in 2011 and also refused to play in the Africa Cup of Nations after characterizing his teammates as poorly organized and amateurish. Even so, Chelsea’s striker was present on the pitch during Cameroon’s second leg against Tunisia.

He played his part well in a 4-1 win which gets his national team to the World Cup. Even though he was used on the right wing which is unusual for him, he still managed to contribute to one of the goals. After his shot hit the upright, Makoun settled the score with 3 minutes left until the final whistle.

If things go well for Eto’o he might take part in yet another World Cup competition. Hopefully for Chelsea the idea of playing against the best national teams in the world during the summer will motivate the Cameroonian who has not been very efficient since coming to Stamford Bridge. His Russian experience really took a toll on Mourinho’s choice for a striker who is having a hard time adapting to the rhythm of the Premier League.

Even if he has managed to score a few times for Chelsea he is still clearly not in optimum form. His performances are nowhere near as precise and efficient as those before his Anzhi transfer. This would probably be Eto’o’s last chance to perform in a major competition with his National team considering he is 32 years old.
