Emile Heskey Makes Bold Chelsea Claim As He Compares Enzo Maresca’s Side To Manchester City, Arsenal And Liverpool

Former Liverpool and Aston Villa striker Emile Heskey believes that Chelsea has a chance to challenge for the Premier League title.

The ex-England international has been impressed by Enzo Maresca’s side and thinks that we could see a four-way title fight alongside Arsenal, Manchester City and Liverpool.

The Blues are fourth after seven games this season and remain unbeaten since the first day of the season when they lost 2-0 to Manchester City.

Enzo Maresca’s side comes off the back of a 1-1 draw against Nottingham Forest before the international break. They next face a tricky trip to Premier League leaders Liverpool at Anfield.

However, Emile Heskey believes that the Blues can compete with the Reds and the other title rivals in the league. He told 10Bet: ” I think Chelsea are the one team that can be a disruptive influence this season. I’m tempted to say that Chelsea could even challenge for the Premier League title and make it a four-way race.

“Having watched Enzo Maresca quite closely at Leicester last season when I was coaching there, I’m confident that he will be a success at Chelsea.

“Chelsea have played in various ways over the last few seasons because they’ve had so many managers. Maresca likes to play a very structured brand of football, but Chelsea’s early results tell me that the players are getting used to his methods”

Chelsea cautiously backed for a title race in betting odds

As ever a good way of judging how a team is viewed is by looking at the betting odds. According to Oddschecker, Chelsea is the fourth favourite to win the league at 22/1.

However, they are quite a large step behind the other three title contenders in the odds as Liverpool is backed to win the league at 4/1, Manchester City at 9/5 and Arsenal at 8/5.

But, so far this season, Chelsea have scored the second-most goals in the league and have proven that they can play to a league-winning level.

It will be a test and a judge of just how good Chelsea are when they make the trip to Anfield this weekend, if they were to win, people may take the Blues as serious title contenders.

Who have been Chelsea’s star players so far this season?

The Blues’ high-scoring nature of football means that they have two of the five players with the highest expected goals so far this season. One of them is striker Nicolas Jackson who has scored four so far.

The other is England international Cole Palmer who is a contender for being the best player in the Premier League so far this year. He has six goals including four in the first half against Brighton before the international break.

Furthermore, Moises Caicedo has impressed in midfield becoming a reliable mainstay for Enzo Maresca, and Manchester United loanee Jadon Sancho looks back to his best in blue.
